6 months!

I just realized that Henry passed the 6 month mark and I missed my intended blog update as to his can-do's! So, with that, here is our Henry at 6 months:

He has started eating solids and has had oatmeal, sweet potato, squash, carrots, peas, kale, broccoli, apple/pear sauce, prunes, bananas, blueberries and peaches!

He can sit up alone for the most part, however, I don't feel comfortable leaving the room while he's sitting there. He has fallen a few times...oops!

He's currently wearing 12-18 month sized clothes.

He's 20lbs and only 2lbs away from the limit on his car seat!

He has two bottom teeth and is still teething like crazy!

He is still a super happy baby and smiles at anything.

He thinks the cat is the coolest thing in the house. I bet she won't think he's the coolest by the time he can chase her around!

He loves bath time and being naked.

He's still not a great napper but sometimes we're lucky to get a 2 hour morning nap! Sometimes it's only 30 minutes.

He's still guaranteed to fall asleep in the car though!

He still spits up from time to time but with me not eating dairy, it has helped a lot.

We still can't put him to bed awake, but for now that's ok with us. He falls asleep fairly quickly and he sleeps through the night so we'll take it.

He thinks Mya is so fun! Everything she does is worthy of being watched like a hawk and she's usually the only one who can make him stop crying when he decides he's had enough of the car seat.

He still wakes up once a night to nurse but usually it's early morning and then he goes right back to sleep. I still call it a win.

He's a lot more interactive than he used to be. He plays with things now, although maybe he's just chewing on them.

We've had to move up to the next size in diapers because he's outgrown the size 1's!

His hair is still sparse and fairly light. He looks almost like a red head in some pictures but I think it'll be strawberry blond.

That's all for now!

The Big Day

So the first day of preschool has come and gone and she did great! She was super excited right up until we parked the car and she was still in "I'm so excited for preschool!" mode but once the car was parked and I went to get her out of her car seat she became nervous and upset and said she didn't want to see the teacher. I reminded her that I'd be going in too and that I'd be there the whole time and it helped her come around. Once we got inside and she saw the other children she completely forgot that she was in a new place with new people all around her. She got so comfortable that when it was time to go, she gave one of the teachers a hug and a kiss good bye! Haha!

Tomorrow they are having Terry Fox games to help teach them about Terry Fox and his message. Parents are invited to come watch and cheer them on but it's right in the middle of nap time so we'll see how that goes. On Tuesday it will be Mya's turn for show and tell and she'll get to be the special helper at school which means she gets to sit in the special seat, feed the fish and change the day on the calendar. I don't mean to persuade her into choosing something for show and tell that she doesn't want to bring, however, I don't think she'll have a lot to say about the ball she decided she wants to bring.

Next Thursday they're going to a u-pick apple farm and again, the parents have to go because every child needs a car seat nowadays and it only makes sense for each parent to pick up their own child from preschool and proceed to the apple farm in their own car. The plus side is that I'll be walking away with a bag of freshly picked apples. Yeehaw!

So yeah, she seems to be enjoying it and I'm enjoying a little bit of downtime twice a week. It's win win really. Lets hope she still likes it after a few weeks!

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the big day. Mya's first day of preschool and she's awfully excited! I really hope the excited feeling lasts and that she doesn't get nervous or scared or anxious tomorrow. It helps that for the first day, the moms and dads are invited to stay so me and Henry will be there to help the transition. Unfortunately, Adam will be at work so he'll miss it but I'll be sure to take some pictures. She's decided she wants to bring her Dora backpack and I think that's a little hilarious/unnecessary but it'll make her happy and it can't hurt. I'll use it to pack some back up clothes or something so at least it'll come in handy.

I really hope the other kids/parents are nice and we both make some new friends!

Wish us luck!

10 on Tuesday

1. Today was Adam's first day back to work. I liked having him home over the summer and having him around the house. I noticed today how much I relied on him where the kids are concerned. Lets just say, the baby carrier got a good work out today!

2. Adam's new schedule gets him out much earlier in the afternoon which is so nice! This afternoon when he got home we were all able to go out for a nice walk and still get home with time to kill until I had to make supper.

3. Henry will be 6 months old on Thursday! How crazy is that?

4. We've started feeding Mr. Henry solids and so far he's tasted sweet potato, banana, pear, oatmeal, rice cereal and apple/pear puree. So far he's only been keen on the sweet potato but he's doing better everyday and I think it's more just an adjustment to eating real food as opposed to drinking milk that has him making faces.

5. Mya's preschool has an open house next week that we'll be going to and I'm hoping she meets some nice little kids and I meet some nice parents.

6. I've been feeling fall in the air lately and it's kind of nice. It makes me start thinking of fall things like pumpkin pies, picking apples, halloween, and the leaves changing color.

7. We're going to need to buy 4 new winter tires this year...blech.

8. I've had to cut dairy out of my diet. That sucks. That sucks because I like ice cream and cheese. I cut it out because Henry's little tummy doesn't react well with dairy. It upsets his stomach and for the moment, I'm willing to sacrifice my ice cream and cheese. There will come a time when I can eat it again.

9. I have this attraction to TLC's reality shows but I think I'm going to need to take a break. After seeing tonight's "High School Moms" I was just too enraged at how stupid some things are.

10. I ordered a book from The Book Depository and I really like the free shipping and cheaper prices but I don't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to get here!

Thursday!?

So we got back from our second vacation to Cape Breton almost a week ago and when I got back I looked at the blog and thought, "oh yeah, like I have time to update that right now" and thus it got pushed to the back burner. But then things started to calm down and I thought, "ok, I'll do a 10 on Tuesday" but then Tuesday ended and I hadn't had a chance to update the blog so then I thought, "alright, wordless Wednesday it is!" and suddenly I woke up and realized it was Thursday and that I also lost my wordless Wednesday chance. Where is time going!? How is it already almost time for school to start and even more frightening: it is almost fall and that means almost winter!! Doesn't it feel like winter just ended? I don't know if time is slipping away quicker than it used to simply because I'm getting older (29 next month people...!), or if it's because I have children now and I can see how quickly time goes or if it's because this time around I'm on maternity leave and therefore I know there is an ending to this time at home.

Anyways, long story short, time moves much too quickly and that sometimes means the blog doesn't get any attention.

This is a rare family photo that was taken at the father in law's place in good ol' Cape Breton. Please note that Mya is wearing a polo and khaki shorts. Shorts! Don't be fooled. She is still just as into dresses as she was before but that day I had packed a diaper bag and threw in a back up outfit for her in case her beloved dress got dirty. Well, it did so out came the back up outfit that I may have purposely picked because it was not a dress. That may sound evil but everyone there kept saying how cute she was and I think it was because no one has seen her in anything other than a dress or skirt in over a year. At first she protested but she got over it when she realized her choices were wearing that or being naked.

Did I mention that while we were in Cape Breton we stayed at a cottage and there was only one bed in our room so it was 3 monkeys in a bed for a week. That looks a little something like this:

Just add me and you've got one squishy sleep. By the end of the week though we had kind of mastered it but we were glad to get back to our own beds at home.

Mya's muscles proved to be no match for Mr. Jack!

Look who's big enough for the buggy without the car seat now!
