1. Jessica and the boys are arriving in Nova Scotia today! The last time she visited, Mya was just a baby...so, four years ago!

2. I made a rhubarb sour cream pie the other day. Turned out pretty yummy even though it didn't look like the picture.

3. Mya is done school for the year, Adam will be done on Friday and then it's Summer time! Yay! It would be a lot more exciting and we'd have a lot more planned if I wasn't going back to work for the summer but c'est la vie!

4. Our garden is looking good and things are actually growing! The spinach will be the first thing ready to harvest and we need to get something for the peas to grow on since we planted the vine kind (I didn't know there was another kind!). The hardest part is finding time to go out and weed it because of all the rain we've had lately.

5. Adam rigged up the hose at the top of the slide on the swing set the other day and the blew up our little pool and put it at the bottom of the slide. Homemade water slide! Thank God we have a daddy in our lives cause I know I wouldn't have come up with that. No wonder they don't want him to leave for work in the mornings.

6. Henry is FINALLY starting to really do well with sleeping. We've transitioned him to an afternoon nap now that Mya is done school and that gives him a slightly later bedtime which gives him a better wake up time too. Most nights he sleeps all night but on the rare occasion when he does wake up, it's usually just a quick song and back to bed.

7. The time has come to register Mya for ballet and it is taking a punch to our pocket book! My sister said it perfectly when she said "it's like hockey but for girls!"

8. Today is a scorcher: this afternoon is going to be 30 but feels like 37! I don't feel like I can complain though since we seem to have had nothing but rain and milder temperatures so far.

9. This year on Canada Day we're hoping Mya might be old enough to stay awake for the fireworks. It will be way past her bedtime but we think she'll enjoy it.

 10. I think we might take the kids to the splash pad in Hantsport again this year since Henry will be old enough to enjoy it. Last year he mostly slept and boobed but this year will be more fun.

Father's Day

Just a quick (late) post to make up for the unplanned hiatus I seem to have taken. Blogs are a lot of work! It's like having another kid. Only this one I can neglect without worry of social services knocking at my door.

Yesterday was Father's Day and Adam had some sleeping in, breakfast in bed and a couple gifts to open. Then we headed to his sister's house to spend some time at the lake. It was a really great day!

Last night I was sitting around thinking about all the old pictures of me and my dad when I was little and came across this one

of me, dad and Treeva when she was brand new. There are other oldies I'd like to scan but I am neither able to figure out how to scan on the scanner downstairs with the computer upstairs nor do I have the time right now to look through pictures and actually scan it with kids pulling at my pant legs.

And here's a picture of our super hero daddy! Maybe someday when Mya is older, she'll have a (better kept up) blog too and she'll be scanning old pics like these to share with everyone.

1. It's almost the end of the school year and that means Adam is busy all the time with end of the year activities and Mya's class is getting ready for their end of the year "family closing".

2. Henry's at that stage now where he likes a book and wants you to read it over and over. The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom are getting very old.

3. I think we might be nearing the end of our breastfeeding relationship. Me and Henry, that is. I knew it wasn't going to last forever but I was hoping he'd be a little older before we called it quits.

4. I'm SO glad the weather has warmed up and we don't need to wear big sweaters when we leave the house anymore but 38 with the humidex on June 1st is a little ridiculous!

5. We took the kids to the Apple Blossom parade on Saturday and while Henry seemed to be kind of blah about the whole thing, when the tractors came by, he grabbed the bar on the front of the stroller and pulled himself up so fast! His feet started going and he lit up like a little Christmas tree. He kept pointing at them and then looking at us as if to say, "mom! dad! did you see that!? did you see that cool tractor?!?"

6. Our veggies have started sprouting and we've planted a couple strawberry and raspberry plants. We're a little worried that the ants are going to think we planted the berries for them and are going to go to town on our plants. One strawberry already looks like it's been attacked but we aren't sure by what. I'm guessing ants. Sigh, I don't know how to keep ants away from my berry bushes without hurting my berries!

7. The little boy in this video is too sweet http://www.takepart.com/article/2013/06/02/luis-antonio-vegetarian?cmpid=foodinc-fb

8. We've been keeping our eyes open for a second hand "Cozy Coupe" but we've been coming up empty handed lately despite going to lots of yard sales. Hopefully we'll land one at the Port Williams yard sale this weekend.

9. Mama is getting a much needed haircut on Saturday! Wahoo! Can't wait! Alone time AND a hair cut. What did I do to deserve this?

10. Henry has cut a new tooth on the top and is working on another on the bottom. I can't wait until this boy has all of his teeth!!

It's Garden Time!

Well, it happened. We actually made a garden! Anna and Scott came down this weekend with a rented tiller, tools, soil and manure and we all got to work clearing out the old, existing garden in our backyard.

I'm sure that when the old lady that lived here before us was here, this garden was lovely and full of flowers but when we moved in, the garden stopped being weeded and it quickly became over grown. That's why it looks so unruly!

So we started digging out all the old flowers, bushes, weeds and grass and then it started to look like this might actually become a garden!

Adam and Anna tried their hand at the tiller which I assumed was a giant machine that would rip up the ground (weeds and all) but is really just a motorized aerator.

Then Anna made rows out of our freshly tilled soil. It turns out we actually had pretty awesome soil and didn't end up needing any of the topsoil that they brought down with them and based on the level of growth that was there before, I feel like it's safe to say that we won't have any trouble growing things in this dirt.

Then came time for my favorite part: planting the seeds.

We planted peas, carrots, onions, kale, and spinach and once it warms up we're going to plant squash, zucchini, beans and cucumbers too! I'd like to eventually plant some sweet potato and rhubarb and also get some blueberry bushes but that might have to wait until next year.

Mya wasn't as great at gardening as we were hoping but hopefully she'll get better once she learns the do's and dont's (do: wear shoes and gloves, don't: walk on top of the rows). She suffered one toe injury (2 foot injuries total so far this year) and yet she will not wear shoes outside. Part of me can't blame her but the other part of me can when she complains and whines later about her foot hurting.

I germinated the seeds we'd be planting a few days ahead to give them a head start since we were late getting them in the ground this year. Some took really well and others not so much. The kale germinated really well but the peas, carrots and spinach only had a few seeds that sprouted. I'm hoping that they still take to the soil and grow good anyway.

When we were done planting, we watered them and marked them and called it a day.

I think I like gardening which is good cause y'know, we just planted a garden. Now if we just got some chickens we'd be all set...!

1. Henry has a thing for "Inner Ninja" by Classified. If I open it up on youtube it allows me time to cut all ten finger nails!

2. Adam was off work all last week because he sprained a joint in his lower back. He's been going to physiotherapy and I think he's back on his feet now. He went back to work yesterday and now my days are long and boring with no one to talk to except the kids.

3. I'm sick, Henry's sick. Being sick sucks. Sore throats. Fevers. You name it. Hopefully it'll be gone soon cause when that boy is sick he sleeps even crappier than usual.

4. Me and Adam decided to ditch our tv and landline and get two cellphones instead. We're saving $100 a month doing it this way which is a no brainer especially since we hardly ever watched tv anyway and we have a WD box.

5. The lawn needs its first mowing of the year and it has yet to happen. I'm pretty sure the crazy lawn guy across the street is starting to lose sleep over it.

6. We finally got a baby swing for the swing set and he loves it!

7. This post was started on Monday and is only getting done today.

8.

9.  We bought the kids little Adirondack chairs and they are so cute! (The chairs, not the kids. Well, ok. The kids are too I guess.)

10. And one last cute picture to complete the late post.
