Ghetto superstar

My little ghetto superstar wearing her ghetto superstar hoody, courtesy of Suzanne:

I told Adam she could go to work with him this morning, that she would fit in with all the other teenagers there. All she needs is a pair of these and the outfit would be complete:

Finger paint anyone?

Mya got her first taste of finger painting this evening (literally!). She tried it both on the paper and in her mouth. Knowing that my daughter is orally fixated, I decided to find a recipe for edible finger paint online in case she decided to give her tongue a whirl (which she did). And the recipe, in case there is anyone out there reading this that wants it, is:

1/2 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups cold water
food coloring

Mix the cornstarch and sugar together and slowly add water, mixing it all up. Heat in a pot on medium heat until it becomes gel like. Remove from heat, divide into separate containers and add your choice of food coloring.

Your finished product should look something like this:

(The two colors on the left should be purple and orange, and they do look purple and orange in real life but apparently not on the computer...or at least my computer.)

The website I found the recipe on said that because it was edible it wouldn't hurt your child if they put it in their mouth but because it probably didn't taste good, they wouldn't be likely to go back for more. Unless you're my kid. She would've eaten the whole container if we let her! And, she got really upset when we pulled her chair away from the table to keep her from eating the paint off the paper (and from eating the paper)...see?

Before the tears though, she did seem to enjoy herself.

So, the finished product?

I think it's beautiful. Bite marks and all! A regular Pablo Picasso she is.

Teaser

So, I mentioned before that we had been given the wonderful gift of having a photographer at Mya's birthday party to save us from having to take pics AND enjoy ourselves (it's a hard thing to do both!). Well, the photog emailed us the other day with a teaser and said she would be finished editing and printing soon, but in the meantime we get to check out this pic:

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this picture. I'm hoping they aren't all edited to look dark like this because I don't feel like this brings out Mya's true self. On the other hand, I still think it's a cute pic and I know I can't edit pics to save my life. I'll post more when we get them!

Sorry!

I've been a bad blogger but in my defense, we've been away for the past week and I've been super busy hence no blog. So where were we? We were in Halifax getting lots of stuff taken care of such as: Adam getting his wisdom teeth out, celebrating Mya's 1st birthday, taking Mya to her 12mos dr's appt and getting Mya's first year pictures taken. Phew! Just writing it makes me feel out of breath!

Adam seems to be recovering well...so far he hasn't experienced any sort of infection or prolonged pain. Although, he only has 2 prescription pain killers left and he's been rationing them cause I think he's afraid of what it might be like to go without them.

Mya's birthday was fun! She had a good time and enjoyed spending time with family. Mya/we were given the gift of having a photog at the party so we wouldn't have to worry about taking pics and we could just sit back and enjoy the party. Great idea! Highly recommended! We're still waiting to get them back and once we do I promise I will share! Birthday cake was clearly a course she had already taken...she needed NO help inhaling her little cake! Every last crumb was found and promptly cleaned up and all surfaces with icing were licked clean. She was definitely the star that day!

Then we were off to the doctor for baby (or should i say 'big girl'? :( ) to get her 12mos needles. As always, she did very well...she's such a brave girl! She was more upset about the needle in her arm but the tears didn't last long and she was on her way again exploring Dr. Z's office. Because she's more active now (and practically walking!) she didn't gain any weight but she did grow half an inch. New stats: 25lbs, 31.5".

Then it was off to New Glasgow to get Miss Mya some one year pictures done. She did very well! She clearly loves the camera and I can't wait to see how they turned out. We're still patiently waiting for those pictures, and I promise to share those as well once we get them!

So, a little Mya catch up shall we?

At one year old my little girl can:

-Clap her hands
-Give high fives
-Let go of one surface and walk to another (when she wants to)
-Go for longer drives in the car when awake and be happy about it
-Stand on her tippy toes to reach something up high
-Dance when she hears music being sung
-Drink cows' milk instead of formula
-Unroll the toilet paper
-Give kisses and hugs
-Express love to her stuffed bunny
-Go for bike rides with us

What a lot of stuff she can do eh? I'm so proud of her!

Ok, no more blogging for this mom, I'm heading to bed!

1 year ago today...

...my life was changed when Mya was born. It's hard to believe it's her first birthday already! Everybody said it but I didn't believe them when they said time flies. It really did. So much has changed in one year! I'll stop blubbering now and let you see the changes for yourself:

Snow day?!?!

Today was a snow day here in our little town. Adam got to stay home and was quite happy about that! I even took a picture to show everyone just how bad the weather was here:

Notice the huge pile of snow on our car? I was really worried about it this morning, seeing as how covered the roads are I was afraid we weren't going to be able to get out to run some errands. Good thing they canceled school so the children didn't have to brave the harsh winds!
