Finger paint anyone?

Mya got her first taste of finger painting this evening (literally!). She tried it both on the paper and in her mouth. Knowing that my daughter is orally fixated, I decided to find a recipe for edible finger paint online in case she decided to give her tongue a whirl (which she did). And the recipe, in case there is anyone out there reading this that wants it, is:

1/2 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups cold water
food coloring

Mix the cornstarch and sugar together and slowly add water, mixing it all up. Heat in a pot on medium heat until it becomes gel like. Remove from heat, divide into separate containers and add your choice of food coloring.

Your finished product should look something like this:

(The two colors on the left should be purple and orange, and they do look purple and orange in real life but apparently not on the computer...or at least my computer.)

The website I found the recipe on said that because it was edible it wouldn't hurt your child if they put it in their mouth but because it probably didn't taste good, they wouldn't be likely to go back for more. Unless you're my kid. She would've eaten the whole container if we let her! And, she got really upset when we pulled her chair away from the table to keep her from eating the paint off the paper (and from eating the paper)...see?

Before the tears though, she did seem to enjoy herself.

So, the finished product?

I think it's beautiful. Bite marks and all! A regular Pablo Picasso she is.
