Dye job

Seeing as Adam is a high school teacher, he sometimes gets approached by the students asking for his assistance in fundraisers, extra-curricular stuff, etc. Recently, he was approached by a couple kids at school asking if he would agree to be one of the teachers to get their hair dyed a ridiculous color (student's choice) if they managed to raise a certain amount of money by the beginning of March. Naturally, because my husband doesn't mind looking like a fool, he said yes. Now we're just waiting to find out what kind of color the kids are going to bestow upon their beloved Mr. Conner. My only request was that they were kind enough to wait until AFTER our family pictures were taken. I wasn't willing to pay for family photos where we all look normal and then there's Adam with green hair.

Stay tuned to find out what color he gets! Same blog time, same blog channel!

Couldn't have said it better myself...

Saw this online and just had to share in case there are other moms out there who read this blog and aren't on my facebook. I love the response the woman got for being so ignorant. This makes my day and i hope it makes someone else's day too. Hopefully it's not too small to read.

House hunters?

That's what we think we are. Every year or so we go through this slump where we get all down in the dumps because we realize we're nowhere near where we want to be in our lives. We haven't set down roots, we haven't nailed down our town to live in, we haven't bought a house to raise our family in...and then it starts. We start looking at houses thinking that we'll be able to buy one just cause we really really really really want one, we'll find one we fall head over heels in love with, we'll obsess over it for a few days and then return to the slump because we know we can't possibly buy it. Well, this year is no different except that we're now back in Canada and we're living in our home province and we know this is where we want to be. A couple weeks ago we were checking out the MLS website (we're addicted to that website) just because we wanted to see what kind of house we could get in the Digby area and what they roughly cost...and ok, maybe cause we were slumping a little also...and Adam found this beautiful home that we fell in love with. It's an old house (which i love because that means it isn't a cookie cutter home) but has been updated inside with new windows, ceramic and hardwood floors, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a wood stove (which we really really wanted!), and a back deck. I'd locate it on google maps and stare longingly at it during the day (bad, i know) which would only make me obsess about it more. So, we're doing something we've never done before: we've made an appointment to see the house! We're going there this weekend to see it up close and personal. I'm so excited but I'm kind of nervous too because I've never done this before. I'm hoping the house is way ugly in person so that I can get over it but I'm afraid that won't be the case. I do feel a little guilty going to see a house we can't afford to buy right now because the owners are probably hoping that we're going to see it and put in an offer (but they don't need to know we're not planning on doing that, right?). We're just going to spin a good story if the real estate agent starts asking too many questions. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that our money tree blossoms in the next few days!

Driving miss cutie pie!

Ok, how adorable is this?!

This was taken on the drive to the city this past weekend. I can't believe she was being so cute in the car seat before and we always missed it because she was facing the other way.

Another piece of cuteness before I leave you:

She makes my heart skip a beat...!

The Kids Bucket List

I came across this article this morning and thought it was cute because most people don't think of a kid as having a bucket list, and most of the things on the list (I think) most kids get to do anyway, but I thought I would pass it along.

Forward facing

Today was a momentous day! We decided to cheat a little bit and turn the car seat forward facing even though she isn't a year old yet. I don't feel like the worst mother in the world cause she's only a couple weeks away from being the big ONE and she's definitely over the weight requirement. I had felt really bad on the drive to the city for her doctors appt the other day because i would talk to her and turn to see how she was doing and i'd see these big blue eyes straining as far back into her head as they would go trying to get a look at me. She was miserable. So this is her early birthday present (and it's kind of a present for me too because we had one hell of a time trying to get that car seat to go rear-facing in our oddly shaped backseat and i was counting down the days until we could turn it around!).

See how happy it made me?

It made adam pretty happy too:

Hopefully this will make our long distance drives waaaaay better and make our baby waaaaay happier!

11 month check up

We got to see Dr. Z again yesterday (we love dr. z) so mya could receive her last of her catch up vaccinations. She's now on schedule with all the other little canadian babies her age. We got her weighed and measured while we were there (that's my favorite part!) and the good doctor was surprised at how big she was: 25lbs, 31 inches! She said most babies around this time will take a dip in their weight because they've become more active (ie. walking) but my little monster just grew bigger. I understand she isn't walking just yet but there's no doubt she's still active! She crawls faster than i can walk and if she's holding onto something she has no problem scooting around the house at lightening speed. She said my baby is in the 95th percentile for height and weight, she said she's almost off the charts! No wonder all of her clothes are 18-24mos size! Don't ask me where she gets all this height from, no one in either of our families is tall. Who knows though, it could all slow down as she gets older and she'll end up just normal like us.

This weekend we're heading to the city for some family time with grampie norm. We haven't seen the folks since christmas so it'll be a nice get together. I'm also hoping to get to the farmers market to take a gander at any woodwork available because adam had the brilliant idea of getting the little one a nice wooden toy box for her birthday. He also had the not so brilliant idea of getting a kit and making it himself. Needless to say, he won't be making one hence our trip to find one that's still homemade and pretty. We haven't been to the farmers market in YEARS so i'm pretty pumped about it. I LOVE the farmers market although i could do without the gigantic crowd of people who also love it. I think we'll have to make use of the backpack that day cause pushing a stroller around just won't do.

Ok, my giant baby is awake after only an hours sleep so I should go retrieve her.

Swimming success!

This afternoon we went swimming at the lifeplex with the comeau clan and it was kick-ass! The lifeplex has a family swim and it was much more fun than sainte anne's mostly because it was a family swim instead of just a mom and tot swim so i didn't have all kinds of cliquey moms ignoring me. Also, the lifeplex is more geared towards little ones! They have a separate kiddie pool where it's more shallow than the shallow end of the big pool, the water is warmer and they have steps that wrap around two sides of the pool. The dressing rooms were nice and clean and just the right size for a little family of three. All very nice features! Another plus is that it's much closer (15 min away!) and that because it's open from 12pm-2pm it gives us a nice big open window of opportunity to get there and enjoy ourselves without feeling rushed. All around happiness swimming at the lifeplex. It was definitely worth the $10. I think we'll make it a weekly outing! Mya had a good time too but she's still learning how to kick and keep the water out of her mouth. It took her a bit of time to open up and be her talkative, smiley self but i think if we keep going she'll get more used to it and next time it won't take so long for her to enjoy it.

We love swimming!
