Toys and Pies

A couple days ago I was in Yarmouth getting the oil changed in our car and had some time to kill so I made my way over to the good ol' Yarmouth mall. I hadn't been there in YEARS and my oh my was that place dead, but anyways, that's not the point. While wandering around I made my way into the Everything For A Dollar Store (EFADS...lame, I know) and I must say, it kicked Dollarama's ass! For starters, I was able to find empty travel bottles for shampoo and conditioner which I could not find at the Dollarama and I was able to find Miss Mya a broom! I was so pleased when my eyes fell on them. I can't sweep my floors when she's awake because she fights with me over who gets to use the broom and needless to say, when she uses it there isn't much sweeping being done. I had looked for one at Dollarama and couldn't find one and even thought I might be able to find a kid one somewhere (but I kind of hoped I didn't find a kid one because everyone knows that kids are smart and never want to play with the kid version of whatever it is of yours they want). Then, I found regular brooms that look like the one we have only it's smaller! It honestly made my day. That either makes me incredibly sad or easy to please. I also picked up a little care package that Auntie Jessica had sent down with Sam. That meant that when I got home, Mya had lots of new things to play with.

This summer I've been trying out some new recipes and the other day I thought I would try out this one I found in the newspaper. It's a summery pie and it's not as high in calories/fat as other pies because

a) it doesn't have a top shell
b) I used cornstarch and flour to thicken the custard rather than a million eggs
c) I used skim milk rather than whole milk
d) it has lots of fruit in it

The recipe was supposed to only make one pie but during the making of the pie I found out that I somehow had enough custard mixture to make two. Luckily, I had enough fruit to quickly whip up a second one!

It turned out super yummy! I think next I'm going to try making Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. They look sooo good!

Ok, I'm off to upload some pictures to facebook! Ciao for now!
