10 on Tuesday...on Wednesday
Hey, I know it's Wednesday but it's also my birthday so I figure I can do whatever I want on my blog today and if that means writing a 10 on Tuesday post when it's really Wednesday then so be it! It's my party and I'll blog if I want to.
1. Mya's been using the word "random" lately but in the wrong context. Such as, "Daddy, will you play with me and the random Barbie bus?"
2. Mya has successfully brought home her first illness from that wretched preschool (don't get me wrong. We both LOVE her preschool but when it comes to catching things from other kids, that place is wretched.) It has also made its rounds in our home. First Adam caught it and now poor Henry has it. What could it be? The common cold folks. Don't be fooled. It sounds innocent enough, which is probably why the parents of that little punk sent their kid to school with it just so my precious, healthy daughter could catch it. Nose wiping is starting to gross me out I've done it so much in the last week. I'm trying my darndest not to get it too because as everyone knows, mamas don't get sick days.
3. This "make your own Halloween costume" thing is hard! We managed to score a dalmatian costume for Henry that I think will be easy enough to convert into a sheep but this Little Bo Peep (aka Mary as it is also known) get up is another story. I'm determined to figure it out though because not only will it be ADORABLE but Mya is actually on board! This never happens! I must succeed!
4. I think I'm going to make some spinach puree for Henry today. Gotta get some iron somehow when you aren't eating meat yet!
5. Having a birthday on Facebook makes you feel famous! I've never had so many emails and notifications in one day than I do on my birthday.
6. I started my Christmas shopping the other day! With the exception of one last gift, my shopping for Mya is done! Minus the stocking stuffers of course...but yay!
7. Did you know the world is facing a bacon and pork shortage for 2013? That is mental.
8. http://mydaddystayshome.blogspot.ca/2012/09/dirty-beavers.html You're welcome.
9. For the last couple days, I've used "Silent Night" to lull my baby to sleep. Works like a charm. Although, now that I've let my secret out it'll probably stop working.
10. We're getting our chimney swept on Friday and that means that any time after that we can start up our woodstove again! I love a good fire. So cozy.
11. The Grey's Anatomy premiere is tomorrow night and I have big plans to go hang out with friends...alone! I haven't done that since the baby was born. This is big for me. And yes, I know this is #11 but remember? It's my birthday. I can do what I want.

6 months!
I just realized that Henry passed the 6 month mark and I missed my intended blog update as to his can-do's! So, with that, here is our Henry at 6 months:
He has started eating solids and has had oatmeal, sweet potato, squash, carrots, peas, kale, broccoli, apple/pear sauce, prunes, bananas, blueberries and peaches!
He can sit up alone for the most part, however, I don't feel comfortable leaving the room while he's sitting there. He has fallen a few times...oops!
He's currently wearing 12-18 month sized clothes.
He's 20lbs and only 2lbs away from the limit on his car seat!
He has two bottom teeth and is still teething like crazy!
He is still a super happy baby and smiles at anything.
He thinks the cat is the coolest thing in the house. I bet she won't think he's the coolest by the time he can chase her around!
He loves bath time and being naked.
He's still not a great napper but sometimes we're lucky to get a 2 hour morning nap! Sometimes it's only 30 minutes.
He's still guaranteed to fall asleep in the car though!
He still spits up from time to time but with me not eating dairy, it has helped a lot.
We still can't put him to bed awake, but for now that's ok with us. He falls asleep fairly quickly and he sleeps through the night so we'll take it.
He thinks Mya is so fun! Everything she does is worthy of being watched like a hawk and she's usually the only one who can make him stop crying when he decides he's had enough of the car seat.
He still wakes up once a night to nurse but usually it's early morning and then he goes right back to sleep. I still call it a win.
He's a lot more interactive than he used to be. He plays with things now, although maybe he's just chewing on them.
We've had to move up to the next size in diapers because he's outgrown the size 1's!
His hair is still sparse and fairly light. He looks almost like a red head in some pictures but I think it'll be strawberry blond.
That's all for now!

The Big Day
So the first day of preschool has come and gone and she did great! She was super excited right up until we parked the car and she was still in "I'm so excited for preschool!" mode but once the car was parked and I went to get her out of her car seat she became nervous and upset and said she didn't want to see the teacher. I reminded her that I'd be going in too and that I'd be there the whole time and it helped her come around. Once we got inside and she saw the other children she completely forgot that she was in a new place with new people all around her. She got so comfortable that when it was time to go, she gave one of the teachers a hug and a kiss good bye! Haha!
Tomorrow they are having Terry Fox games to help teach them about Terry Fox and his message. Parents are invited to come watch and cheer them on but it's right in the middle of nap time so we'll see how that goes. On Tuesday it will be Mya's turn for show and tell and she'll get to be the special helper at school which means she gets to sit in the special seat, feed the fish and change the day on the calendar. I don't mean to persuade her into choosing something for show and tell that she doesn't want to bring, however, I don't think she'll have a lot to say about the ball she decided she wants to bring.
Next Thursday they're going to a u-pick apple farm and again, the parents have to go because every child needs a car seat nowadays and it only makes sense for each parent to pick up their own child from preschool and proceed to the apple farm in their own car. The plus side is that I'll be walking away with a bag of freshly picked apples. Yeehaw!
So yeah, she seems to be enjoying it and I'm enjoying a little bit of downtime twice a week. It's win win really. Lets hope she still likes it after a few weeks!

Tomorrow
Tomorrow is the big day. Mya's first day of preschool and she's awfully excited! I really hope the excited feeling lasts and that she doesn't get nervous or scared or anxious tomorrow. It helps that for the first day, the moms and dads are invited to stay so me and Henry will be there to help the transition. Unfortunately, Adam will be at work so he'll miss it but I'll be sure to take some pictures. She's decided she wants to bring her Dora backpack and I think that's a little hilarious/unnecessary but it'll make her happy and it can't hurt. I'll use it to pack some back up clothes or something so at least it'll come in handy.
I really hope the other kids/parents are nice and we both make some new friends!
Wish us luck!

10 on Tuesday
1. Today was Adam's first day back to work. I liked having him home over the summer and having him around the house. I noticed today how much I relied on him where the kids are concerned. Lets just say, the baby carrier got a good work out today!
2. Adam's new schedule gets him out much earlier in the afternoon which is so nice! This afternoon when he got home we were all able to go out for a nice walk and still get home with time to kill until I had to make supper.
3. Henry will be 6 months old on Thursday! How crazy is that?
4. We've started feeding Mr. Henry solids and so far he's tasted sweet potato, banana, pear, oatmeal, rice cereal and apple/pear puree. So far he's only been keen on the sweet potato but he's doing better everyday and I think it's more just an adjustment to eating real food as opposed to drinking milk that has him making faces.
5. Mya's preschool has an open house next week that we'll be going to and I'm hoping she meets some nice little kids and I meet some nice parents.
6. I've been feeling fall in the air lately and it's kind of nice. It makes me start thinking of fall things like pumpkin pies, picking apples, halloween, and the leaves changing color.
7. We're going to need to buy 4 new winter tires this year...blech.
8. I've had to cut dairy out of my diet. That sucks. That sucks because I like ice cream and cheese. I cut it out because Henry's little tummy doesn't react well with dairy. It upsets his stomach and for the moment, I'm willing to sacrifice my ice cream and cheese. There will come a time when I can eat it again.
9. I have this attraction to TLC's reality shows but I think I'm going to need to take a break. After seeing tonight's "High School Moms" I was just too enraged at how stupid some things are.
10. I ordered a book from The Book Depository and I really like the free shipping and cheaper prices but I don't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to get here!
