10 on Tuesday

1. I woke up with this song stuck in my head this morning. Much better than the theme song to "Special Agent Oso"...ugh, that song makes me want to hurt people.

2. Last night was a bit rough and we couldn't get Henry to sleep before almost 2am. It makes for a hard morning. Combine that with the recent snow we've been getting and you get a day where staying in your jammies and drinking coffee the whole day through seems like the perfect plan. Oh how I wish my 3 year old still napped.

3. I'm thinking about taking Mya to this in May: http://www.childrenswish.ca/en-ns/events/924/Princess-Tea-Party. The only thing holding me back is that it would cost $70 for us to both go and that seems steep to me. She would have a ball but 70 bucks!? I mean, I know it's for a charity but $35 for a child's ticket seems high.

4. Easter is soon and it seems like everyone is on the ball and has everything ready for Easter. Not me! I have bought zero. I have cooked zero. And really? I don't even care. Ahh maternity leave and your laid back attitude.

5. Henry is 3 weeks old today and I hate to be one of those people who's all "wow! my baby is already 6 days old! where does the time go!?" as if their baby is incredibly old but it doesn't seem like it was 3 weeks ago that he was born.

6. I hate that I've followed the normal trend of human parenting and that my second born has approximately 1 photo taken of him for every 300 we took of Mya. I give him extra kisses so he knows we still love him.

7. My sister made Mr. Henry a quilt that I love. I have a thing for homemade blankets/quilts so this was right up my alley.

Adorable, right?

8. Mya got a bike over the weekend. A real bike. With training wheels and everything. I think she could've gotten away with riding a tricycle for a little bit longer but other people disagreed with me. So now she scoots around on a princess bike complete with a baby seat on the front for baby Cinderella. Really.

9. I got two parcels in the mail yesterday from friends who live far away. It made my day. I love getting parcels!

10. I'm thinking about getting pictures done of the family/the kids. When is a good time to get pictures taken of the children together? Christmas? Henry would be 9 months old then and more able to smile/sit up/not throw up all the time. Christmas might be a good time and maybe next year we'll get family pics taken when he's a little more toddlery. Aww, I can't wait!

Happy Belated Birthday!

Our lovely first born turned 3 this year and since her actual birthday happened to fall on the day after Henry was born, we had the party late this year. I was a little tied up on her actual birthday so we had the party the following week.

At 3 years old, Mya can:

-name all her colors
-identify all basic shapes
-count to 13 before jumping to 17
-go all night and stay dry
-identify most letters of the alphabet
-dress herself

She loves to:
-paint
-do crafts
-play pretend
-give her baby brother lots of hugs and kisses
-show her independence by brushing her own hair and teeth and picking out her own clothes
-do anything related to princesses, she's mildly obsessed
-be read to, especially if it's a story from her Disney princess book
-have her toe nails painted

-She will be starting pre-school in the fall and is really excited about it
-She tells us she loves us all the time
-She is very affectionate
-She loves music and loves to dance
-She is really good at helping to clean up when playtime is over
-She has a really great imagination
-She still sucks her thumb
-She is really girly and wants to wear a dress at every chance but it can't be without her necklace and bracelet to complete the look
-She knows her full name, age and town she lives in

She is such a big girl now! Seriously, where has the time gone?! Good thing I just had another baby so I can really stop and take it all in this time since now I know how quickly time goes by.

Happy Birthday big girl! We love you!

Introducing...

...our newest addition! Henry George Conner was born March 6th at 9:05am at home. This is the cute reason I haven't posted in some time. I've been a little busier than normal as you can imagine!

He is the best baby I could've asked for. He sleeps almost all night, eats like a champ and is so mild mannered and calm it blows my mind. Considering my first born was nothing like this, I was kind of surprised I could make calm, happy babies. Some night when I have more time, I'll share his birth story for those who are interested in reading it. Time to get back to snuggling my new little man!

Last Day

Friday was my last day of work and I went into it being all "Sayonara Suckahs!" and was surprised to see someone had bought me a delicious cake and a card and when people were leaving I was getting hugs and kisses left, right and centre. I didn't think I would actually be missed but it was a nice feeling to know that I will be. At first anyway. The miss will wear off eventually just like the novelty of mat leave will eventually wear off. But it doesn't matter. Friday was a bittersweet day and I think I'll miss them too. Good thing they aren't far away so I can stop in for visits.

Speaking of maternity leave, I applied for that yesterday morning. Oy. At the time I thought it was probably the most difficult part of being pregnant but after it was done I thought, that wasn't so bad. Lets hope there are no bumps in the road to getting my money and all that jazz.

Yesterday morning I also went to brunch with friends and while I was gone, Adam and Mya took Baby Cinderella for a walk around the block in her old umbrella stroller. Even though she has her own dolly umbrella stroller, I guess being able to push a real stroller was better.

Pre-School Tour and Car Seats

Yesterday we went to see Mya's future preschool teacher: Mrs. Miner. She seemed nice and Mya warmed up to her once we were there for a few minutes. Actually, I think Mya liked her toys more than anything but what can you expect from an almost 3 year old? Her preschool set up was nice and she taught more than I realized/thought a preschool would. Next week the kids are learning about teeth and one of the parents is a dentist who'll be coming in to talk so I thought that was neat. They have an aquarium with fish and another with a gecko that the kids take turns getting to feed. There's a sand table, painting board, craft table, snack time, show and tell and lots of other things I forgot that preschool had to offer. The kids each get a little cubby and hook to hang their coats which I thought was adorable. We took the registration home with us and I think we've decided that Mya will really like it there. At least that was the impression I got when she cried when it was time to leave.

After we got home, it was time to install the new car seat in the car. We thought we'd wait until a nice day to get it done and although it looked nice outside it felt like we were at the North Pole. Let me just say, there's nothing like a rear facing car seat to make you feel like you drive a clown car.

I had been thinking that even though there would be a car seat on either side of our backseat, we'd still be able to use the middle if we needed it. Ha. Ha. The only person small enough to fit in there now would be small enough to require their own car seat and we know THAT won't fit. So, we now have a 2 person backseat.

They are practically touching! This is just insanity. No wonder people with 2 kids get minivans. It seemed stupid to me before now.

Anyways, today I'm 38 weeks so that means only 2 more weeks until our estimated B day and tomorrow starts the first day of my last week of work! Yeehaw! Lets get this show on the road!

1. Confession time: I don't know how other moms do it. I feel like as soon as I'm home alone with Mya I can't get anything else done. When I'm here alone (which is never) I can get laundry done, cooking, cleaning, you name it! Or when Adam is home, I tend to go into "get it done" mode too because I know he's there to tend to all of her wants and needs, but during the week when it's just the 2 of us, everything feels like a mountain to climb. I have no desire to do any of the "kid things" other moms do with their kids. I do not want to go outside and play. I do not want to have a dance party in the living room. I do not want to go to the park. I do not want to play pretend. It feels like I'm babysitting and not getting paid for it. Am I the only one who feels this way?

2. We have an appt. this weekend to go visit one of the local preschools to see what we think of it and if we all like it then I think we'll have a winner for this fall! I'm excited for her!

3. Only 9 more days to go!

4. A patient at work called me sexy the other day. I don't know what's worse: having people comment on my size and make me feel like crap or having men call me sexy. Both leave me feeling odd in the end.

5. My sister was admitted to the hospital the other night for pneumonia. She's been sick for about a week and wasn't able to kick it so she went to the hospital and they set her up for the night. I hope she's feeling better soon!

6. Our craft today was a necklace made out of string and cut up straws. We tried macaroni but personally, I think macaroni is overrated. Or else I just buy crappy macaroni. We couldn't get the string through and it made for a frustrated mama. Straws it was!

7. Mya made a Valentine's Day card for Adam yesterday. Quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen. It's one of those cute things that you know you'll hold onto for years and then whip it out when they're older to show them how cute they were.

8. I really wish mat leave wasn't synonymous with being poor cause we could really use a second car but from what I hear, they still require gas, insurance and maintenance just like a first car! Looks like no second car in our near future!

9. We've been saving our air miles like mad in the hopes that by this summer we'll have enough to take a trip out west to visit my dad and sister. Even if we were only able to save enough for one person's round trip then maybe we'd be able to score a seat sale for the other 2 tickets cause baby would fly free!

10. I got "The Complete Canadian Living Baking Book" for Christmas and in it is THE best chocolate chip cookie recipe. My friend Sarah makes the best chocolate chip cookies (and I could probably eat 5 at a time) and although these aren't the same, they are just as good. I've finally found one. It's been a long time for me looking for a good chocolate chip cookie recipe. I don't know why but I just can't do cookies. That is, until now.
